At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another Titus 3:3
But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them 1 John 2:11
Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him 1 John 3:15
That the
God of our Lord Jesus Christ…May give unto you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened.
Ephesians 1:17-18
“Days of
Praise” devotion booklet uses these words to explain what happens when we come
to a realization that our past behavior is not the best. This could explain
when someone listens to our Lord and determines to love instead of hate.
The Greek
language of the phrase “the eyes of [our] understanding being enlightened”
(Ephesians 1:18) could be translated “the vision of your deep thought will be
made to shine,” or paraphrased in a more colloquial expression, “the light
comes on!”
It seems to
me that when a person hates another individual it also hurts the person who
hates. Sometimes, it seems, the hating person gets hurt the most. Our Bible
shows the love of Jesus in many different ways towards us. One of our Lord’s
great commandments is to Love One Another. Titus tells us we are foolish,
disobedient, deceived and enslaved by hating one another. John tells us we walk
around in darkness when we hate.
Prayer: Dear
Father in heaven, who inspired these writers and tells us to love, please help
us to put away any hate in our lives and quit being deceived. I pray Lord those
who hate to have “the light come on!” Amen.
